Hammerhead shark

The most dangerous shark on the planet is the hammerhead shark

As a rule, hammerhead sharks do not attack people, but they can kill divers who are too close to her. The most aggressive hammerhead sharks are West African and bronze hammerhead sharks, growing to gigantic proportions.

Lemon Shark

The most dangerous shark on the planet is the lemon shark.

These sharks got a very interesting name. Currently, there have been no lethal attacks, but these monsters should not be underestimated. Yellow sharks become especially aggressive during mating, therefore it is highly undesirable to watch them during this period. Very often you can meet sharks of this species in captivity.

The summer season is always associated with a beach holiday. But in the azure waters of the overseas resort are often hidden large and dangerous creatures - sharks. We decided to make a list of 5 species of sharks, which most often attack a person.

This large fish was also called the man-eater shark, as it was famous for its large number of attacks on people. This type of shark is found in all the world's oceans, except the Arctic. An animal can reach sizes up to six and a half meters and weigh up to two and a half tons. The main ration of this largest marine predator are marine mammals, birds and fish. The white shark is on the verge of extinction due to uncontrolled fishing. It must be said that if you count the number of white sharks killed by a person and the number of people eaten by the white shark, people will lead with a huge lead in the bill.

The animal is able to exist in both salty and fresh water, it is distinguished by powerful jaws and high aggressiveness. They very often swim in rivers and are able to climb high upstream. These are rather slow predators: they feed on invertebrates, mammals, including dolphins, and birds. The level of testosterone in the blood of these sharks is higher than that of any other animals, which partly explains their aggressiveness. In order to avoid the attack of this predator, it is necessary to keep closer to the shore, not to swim at dawn and dusk, and keep in the water in groups.

This type of shark is one of the most common on the planet. They live in all oceans, can keep both the embankment and swim away from the coast. Very often, in pursuit of prey, they swim in shallow water, often swim in bays and canals. The curiosity of tiger sharks often confronts them with a man, which sometimes ends in a rather pitiable way. A four-meter predator weighing about half a ton does not leave a chance to humans, although the latter is not included in the food priorities of the tiger shark.

Received its name for the long front fins, was discovered in the nineteenth century. They prefer warm water, tend to dwell closer to the equator. Until recently, sharks were quite common, but over the past few decades, their population has declined dramatically. Again, uncontrolled fishing and climate change were to blame.

This type of shark is not as aggressive as the ones listed above and all attacks on humans can be considered provoked. They attack people only if they feel danger from their side. They can hurt the harpooner or bite the boat. Attacks on boats are especially common and characteristic of Mako. Also, eyewitnesses say that Mako very often jump on board the ship. This aggressive shark is an object of industrial fishing, lives in warm subtropical and tropical waters. Very often Mako serve as food for larger sharks and for their fellow tribesmen.

Most people perceive sharks as real monsters, who at the first opportunity can attack a person. By and large, such an image is formed by feature films about monster sharks, but you can’t even call them cute creatures, since the attacks of these predators on people do happen.

Sharks are dangerous, and this must always be remembered, and they are dangerous not only because they have sharp teeth, powerful jaws and they are incredibly strong, but also because their behavior is unpredictable. In addition, some of them have incredible aggressiveness. Among the sharks there are a dozen representatives who are considered the most dangerous for a person, the meeting with which can end rather sadly.

Bull shark, stupid shark

Bull shark, or stupid shark (lat. Carcharhinus leucas) - this marine predator deserves the title of one of the most dangerous, as it repeatedly attacked a man, and most often everything ended for the latter fatal. Numerous have shown that this shark is one of the most aggressive sharks, especially during hunting.

Besides the fact that a bull shark lives in salt water, it often enters rivers, climbing upstream for many kilometers. Also been seen in lakes Michigan and Nicaragua. The body length of a bull shark reaches up to 3.29-3.5 m, weight - about 320-450 kg.

Great White Shark

Great White Shark, or Carharodon (lat. Carcharodon carcharias) - This marine predator already has more than fifty human lives. It dwells in all oceans except the Arctic. The white shark can reach 6 meters in length and weigh more than 2 tons.

This species is on the verge of extinction, as there are only about 3.5 thousand of them left. According to the International Shark Attack File (from 1990 to 2011), 139 (!) Cases of large white shark attacks on humans (29 of them were fatal) were recorded.

Tiger shark

The tiger shark, or leopard shark (lat. Galeocerdo cuvier) - is also considered a man-eating shark, besides this shark is not very picky about food - it can swallow everything that comes its way.

Inhabits the waters of the oceans (both in open waters and off the coast). The length of the tiger shark can reach 3.3 meters (maximum length - 7.5 m), weight - about 635 kg ( maximum weight   - 807.4 kg).

Long-winged shark

Long-winged shark (lat. Carcharhinus longimanus) - this shark lives in clean and deep water, its preferred temperature is from 20 ° C to 28 ° C.

It can reach a length of 3.5-4 meters, weight - about 20-60 kg. Because of the love of warm water, it is quite common to meet with a person. Was repeatedly seen in the attack on people bathing in tropical waters or shipwrecked.

Pointed mako shark

Acute-nosed mako shark, or black-footed shark, or blue-gray herring shark, or mackerel shark (lat. Isurus oxyrinchus) - big shark   from the family herring sharks   (lat. Lamnidae).

About 40 attacks on humans were committed by these sharks, but for the most part they were not fatal. Gained fame thanks to the ability to reach speeds of up to 50 km / h and jumping out of the water to a height of several tens of meters. The maximum length of this shark is 4.45 m.

Reef shark

Reef shark (lat. Triaenodon obesus) is a predatory fish, family owned   gray sharks (lat. Carcharhinidae).

The eyes of this predator are protected by a special eyelid, closing during an attack. Reef sharks have attacked people less than ten times, and fortunately the latter have always remained alive. This is a rather small shark, the length of which is about 2.13 m.

Sand shark

Sandy shark (lat. Carcharias taurus) is a predatory fish of medium length (from 250 to 320 cm).

The embryo (during development inside the uterus) is characterized by omophagy (eating raw meat). Tiny sharks feed not only on unfertilized eggs, but also already fully formed brothers and sisters, acting on the principle “only one will survive”. In addition, they quite often attacked people (from 1990 to 2011 there were 30 cases of attacks on people).

Blue or blue shark

Moka, or blue, or blue shark (lat. Prionace glauca) is a predator attacking people.

Official attacks - more than 30. Mostly attacks on a person because of curiosity. Besides, blue sharks   bite through boats, which, as a rule, leads to the death of people.

Hammerhead shark

Hammerhead sharks (lat. Sphyrnidae) are predatory fish from the order of karharinoobraznyh sharks.

A distinctive feature is the unusual shape of the head, which resembles a hammer. Adults can reach 6 m (I come in specimens and are 7–8 m long). Considered to be a rather ferocious shark, however, hammerhead fish do not attack people as often as other aforementioned representatives. Rumors of the incredible aggressiveness of this shark are most likely due to its ominous appearance.

Lemon or Yellow Shark

Lemon, or yellow shark (Latin Negaprion brevirostris) - refers to the species of gray sharks.

The length of the body of a lemon shark is about 340 cm. It becomes especially aggressive during the breeding season, but it is also easy to make them angry during normal times. 20 cases of attacks on humans were recorded, but all of them survived. Lemon sharks are potentially dangerous to humans. To date, this shark is on the verge of extinction.

Killer shark

"... through the abyss of centuries, the bloodthirsty, ineradicable shark reached our days, without needing evolution, reached the most ancient killer, originally armed to fight for existence."

Jacques-Yves Cousteau

The statement of the famous Frenchman in relation to sharks fully reflects the essence of these predatory creatures. This is, of course, not only about sharks, which we are accustomed to be considered dangerous cannibals - all sharks, from tiny and bottom to pelagic and plankton-eating, are dangerous creatures. And if the whale and giant are dangerous for the smallest animals, such species as tiger, large white, are dangerous for everything floating on the seas-oceans. And the perfection of the forms and the organism of these predators cannot be disputed by anyone.

Reputation of ruthless murderers

Of all the animals living in the sea, the shark causes the greatest hatred, disgust and fear, sometimes - uncontrollable horror. This horror haunts man for many centuries. Already ancient Greek scientist Aristotle was engaged in the study of this ancient predator, for thousands of years, disturbing the human imagination.
In the first century AD, Pliny the Elder wrote about brutal battles with sharks, which are forced to lead sponge catchers, warning that the danger of shark attacks increases as the diver returns to the surface; This observation is confirmed by many experts.

Flawlessly created to fight for survival many millions of years ago, the shark is perfectly adapted to attack any living creature in the water and, in most cases, leaves the victim no chance for survival. In most species, the mouth is located at the bottom of the head, behind the snout; hence the belief that sharks have to turn on their backs or sides to bite. This is not true. Sharks often attack from the bottom, bending the snout upward to sink terrible teeth.

Shark teeth leave a characteristic crescent mark with jagged edges; the bite can be very deep, depending on the size and ferocity of the predator. The victims of shark attacks are not only humans, but literally everyone within reach: dolphins, sea turtles, sea lions, birds, fish, land animals that fell or entered the water.
Shark has as few natural enemies as natural friends. Sometimes a killer whale or swordfish rushes at the shark, cruel fights with dolphins occur. Cetaceans have a significant advantage over sharks - they, as a rule, are collective animals, so a shark often has to flee (although in the case of a bunch of killer whales this may not always happen - the killer whales themselves are quite aggressive and powerful predators). And yet, more often, the shark serves as prey for their own relatives - a weakened or aged predator, as a rule, is eaten by other sharks.

But let's try, on the basis of various facts and scientific observations, to objectively understand - is it really possible to call sharks bloodthirsty killer-cannibals?

Cannibal sharks - how terrible are they?

Definitely answer this question is difficult.
Sometimes they strike with their caution. Dozens of sharks can swim around the bait for a long time, exploring it. If the bait suddenly makes a sharp movement, the animals in fear will shrink aside, and only after some time will they begin their exploration again. However, the smell of blood (it can smell hundreds of meters) infuriates the shark, and it forgets about any danger and as if falls into insanity.
And woe to that living being, including man, if in such a situation he finds himself in the path of lightning-fast beasts who have lost their mind with teeth that are sharp as a razor in powerful jaws ...

Although every year many people die from shark attacks, still, in fairness, it should be noted that the shark is not the greatest danger to swimmers and bathers. Much more people die from the "communication" with the blue ringed octopus (one of the most poisonous creatures on Earth), from the burns of deadly jellyfish, among which are charged with the strongest poison that nature was able to invent.
Nevertheless, it is the sharks that cause the greatest fear among the inhabitants of the underwater world, as well as among humans. For a man with his ability to fantasy, the picture of his own flesh torn into pieces, which this monster absorbs, causes horror long before he gets into the underwater world of the sea and sees sharks in habitat   habitat. Most divers claim that there is no grander and more beautiful animal in the aquatic world than a swimming shark. And the fear of opening the eyes of the magnificent creation of nature goes away. Of course, if a huge fish, with obvious signs   shark cannibal goes to your side, nerves begin to remind of horror stories and episodes from the relevant films, but if you follow the established rules of the underwater hostel and do not provoke the shark to attack, then most likely nothing terrible will happen to you. Sharks very rarely attack divers, especially if the latter have experience in diving with these fish.

Of the more than 400 known species of sharks, only 12 are considered to be classified as man-eating sharks, since there are documented evidence of unprovoked attacks by these predators on humans. There are several other species that are considered potentially dangerous, but there are no documented cases of unprovoked attacks on humans by these sharks. In addition to these monsters that can easily kill a person, there is a rather long list of sharks that can cause serious injuries with their teeth. Such sharks (and they are quite small) are classified as traumatic animals. They commit attacks on people, as a rule, if the latter provokes a shark to attack or forces them to defend themselves. But these are special cases with light consequences, which are not very scary for swimmers, so let's try to figure out why some species of sharks have gained the vile reputation of man-made sharks.

It is clear that a person cannot enter the traditional menu of sharks, which were born millions of years before the appearance of people on the planet. Most likely, sharks take a bather floundering in the water for a sick animal, and this is a call for a feast. Apparently, in most cases, a shark attacking a person does not understand who it is attacking, the only thing it sees in this case is a helpless potential victim and an easy prey.

In addition, the silhouette of a person, especially a surfer on the board, is often similar to the outlines of some marine life, and therefore looks very appetizing. Recognizing the error, the predator can confine poking at a person, not setting her teeth, or by making a test bite, leave the victim alone. Although - what a peace there is! It is difficult to imagine a person who could maintain his composure, having experienced the sharpness of shark teeth on his body. But now is not about that.

The attack of sharks on people in the ordinary state is rare because these predators, despite their impressive size and powerful “weapons”, are cowardly enough. Therefore, rarely when an attack occurs immediately, as soon as you come to the attention of a shark, even belonging to the species from the category of cannibals. This, of course, is not a dogma - it is not for nothing that they say that it is very difficult to predict the behavior of a shark, but in most cases this is the case. Either the shark, having satisfied curiosity, having looked at a strange creature, will simply lose interest in it, or, having decided, nevertheless, for a test bite, throws the victim and swims away disappointedly. Especially, if the victim had a good fight.

Despite the soothing notes in the previous lines, it should be noted that large and, especially, sharks that have tried human blood at least once, especially of such species as tiger, big white, gray bull, long-fin, mako and other cannibal sharks, can attack humans without any preparation and study. The reason for this is also in the fact that such large predators have no serious enemies at sea and are true masters of their possessions. Any living thing that appears in the water, of course, will represent for them the source of food and nothing more.
The attack of such shark-cannibals, the size of which more than three meters will leave the victim very little chance of escape, at least in a crippled form. Speed, power, fearless, sharp teeth in powerful, like a press, jaws and predator instinct will do their dirty deed. In addition, the shark, as a true predator, tries to sneak up on the intended victim unnoticed and conduct a surprise attack. In such cases, the person realizes that a shark has attacked him only when he feels the pain of a bite. Often the victim does not have time to see that the monster left him without a leg or piece of flesh and disappeared into the abyss. Fortunately, such cases are not common. Usually in the water a person is confronted with smaller shark species that behave much more carefully.
However, the objective danger of sea predators, as a separate super-detachment of marine inhabitants, is described.

Dr. Samuel Gruber, one of the world's leading shark researchers, is a professor of marine biology at the University of Miami (Rosenstahl School of Marine and Atmospheric Science), repeatedly referred to as "shark guru", writes: "Most sharks are too small to be vicious killers of men and women , and many of them live deep in the sea, where no people swim in. But the fact remains: about 100 shark attacks do occur every year. But elephants are much bigger killers, they account for about 200 victims each year (not counting trainers and guide dogs), and evil dogs kill thousands of people .... "

Nevertheless, it is necessary to recognize the fact that every year a certain number of people are attacked by sharks on the planet, sometimes such meetings with sharks end very badly. The most terrible thing in a shark attack is that you feel completely helpless in this situation - in the water a person, alas, does not feel far like a fish.

Below I have given a list based on data of many years of comparisons of the facts of shark attacks on humans, which is a list of dangerous families of sharks in order of their potential threat to humans.

The most dangerous sharks

No one can say with full confidence how many sharks should be considered dangerous to humans.
Most often among the cannibals are the following sharks: the big white (she is karcharodon), the tiger, mako and her relatives, the formidable gray shark of Australian and South African waters, the giant hammerhead shark, the sandy and bloodthirsty group of the Karharins, where the longimanus and the brown go to , twilight, blue, black-footed, white-footed and lemon shark. One freshwater robber is known - the gray bull shark, a species of which lives in Nicaragua lake stretching for 160 kilometers in Central America (the shark of Lake Nicaragua). Gray bull sharks can hunt in both sea and fresh water, which makes them especially dangerous to humans.

Akin to the gray bovine, the Ganga shark willingly devours the bodies of the departed Indians, who according to custom are lowered into the waters of the holy Ganges River and its tributary Hugli. However, this shark does not make a big difference between the living and the dead and also hunts bathers.
  So, in order.

Of all the murderers that inhabit the oceans and seas, the most formidable is considered to be the most terrible big white shark (karharodon). It surpasses the size of all other cannibals; the largest specimen caught reached a length of 6.5 meters and weighed more than three tons. She is the strongest and most voracious. According to scientists, specimens of large white sharks can reach 9 or more meters in length. It is the largest of the aggressive sharks.
Karharodon attacks people in warm and cool waters, in shallow water and far from the coast, almost always suddenly, and very often a powerful attack of a huge toothed mouth leads to death.

There is a case when the remains of a whole horse were found in the belly of a white shark caught in Australia.
In 1916, off the coast of New Jersey, one shark killed four bathers in a few days and crippled the fifth, giving rise to the most massive hunt for sharks in US history. Although there was no complete certainty that the predator was caught, the majority of the specialists attributed this massacre to the white shark. Nowadays, most ichthyologists agree that a gray bull shark, an extremely aggressive fish that easily tolerates desalination and is often found in the mouths of many rivers, played the role of a man-eating shark.

Carharodon is a kind of symbol of a predatory shark. During World War II, thousands of shipwreck victims who fought with the waves were devoured by sharks, but far more attacks were recorded on bathers who swam or stood waist-deep in the water 10 - 50 meters from the coast.
Huge jaws, speed of movement, silent tactics of this predator makes it the most dangerous at sea. The attack of the white shark on humans - if she is determined to eat you, in almost 100% of cases, the monster will end in victory. We are saved only by the fact that people are not the usual food for sharks, therefore, mistaking us for fish or sea animals, feeling an unfamiliar taste, it happens that she immediately throws us away. True, for a person who has felt the teeth of a shark and its enormous strength, this will probably be a weak consolation and will not cause a feeling of gratitude to the predator.

However, the question that this man-eating shark is considered the most dangerous for humans is disputed by many experts and ichthyologists. Yes, of course, the great white shark is a powerful and bloodthirsty predator, quite suitable for the role of the most terrible sea man-eater. However, the population of this shark is now so reduced that a meeting with a big white at sea is a great coincidence. Therefore, many scientists have a different point of view about the most dangerous shark-eater.
There are, at least, two very real contenders for this role - the gray bull (or stupid) shark and the long-fledged ocean shark.
The essence of the reason why many experts consider these predators the most dangerous is that their paths-paths often intersect with human ones - the gray bull-shark is quite numerous in the coastal waters of many seas and even occurs in the mouths of rivers flowing into the seas. And the long-fin ocean shark is the thunderstorm of those who by the will of fate in the open sea, as a result of a ship or plane crash or for some other reason. The Lord alone knows how many such accidents have found their doom in the toothed maw of these extremely aggressive and fearless predators.
These are real man-eating sharks, meeting with them in open waters in most cases ends very tragically. Of course, there are other types of pelagic sharks that are considered dangerous to humans - mako, blue, but it is the long-fin shark, with its supersensitive sense of smell and subtle senses, always the first to be near the victim in the open sea. In addition, as I already wrote, these sharks are extremely fearless and rush to the victim without looking back and doubt. Apparently, life on the high seas taught them to this, where it is much more difficult to get food than in coastal waters.
The law - you do not have time to eat, you will eat another, here it is expressed especially brightly.

Feature films and documentaries are dedicated to these marine predators. They are afraid and admired by them. It's about most big league fishes. marine predators. We want to present you the top most dangerous sharks of the world.

Sprinter

At the bottom of our list is a sharp-shark. It is easy to distinguish it from the relatives of other species by two large fins on the back. Thanks to this body design, this shark is an excellent sprinter. From a place it can accelerate to a speed of 56 km / h. The length of the shark is 1.9-2.6 m. On the head there are two bulging eyes that have eyelids.

The sharp-toothed shark is dangerous, it is easy to provoke an attack. The ability to see in the dark and the natural gift of disguise make the predator an excellent hunter.

Stubborn beauty

Extraordinarily beautiful and dangerous blue shark. It has a very flexible, thin body. The sea beauty is from 2.5 to 4.5m. Hallmark   blue color and a tail with a big blade serve it, it helps to cover huge distances. The shark has a vast habitat. Usually hunt a pack of large fish.

It is believed that she is the most dangerous shark in the world. The threat lies in the persistence of this fish: if you set a goal, it will not retreat. Will circle until it comes close to the victim. Cases of attacks on ordinary tourists are rare, most often divers and people caught in the open sea fall into the mouth.

Hammer

In eighth place is one of the most bizarre representatives of the underwater world - the hammerhead shark. It has an unusual structure of the head, but despite this, it has flexible muscles, which gives maneuverability, which makes the fish a dangerous representative of the depths of the sea. It inhabits tropical shallow waters.

The danger is represented only by large representatives of hammerheads. Divers and lovers of swimming in the deep are in the risk zone.

Awe-inspiring

The one who could be awarded the title “the most dangerous shark in the world” is a sandy tiger shark. It is enough to see only the teeth, and nightmares are provided. The body length is 3.5-4 meters. The appearance is classic, it even seems thick and clumsy, but this does not make it a bad hunter.

And what about her temper? Observations have shown that in reality they are as gentle as sheep. But the shark is a shark, for good reason it has spiked teeth and hunting instincts. Attacks people for two reasons. The first - because the man pesters the shark. The second - this fish does not differ patience.

Torpedo

A gray reef shark is often compared to a torpedo, as it is fast and maneuverable. The color has a range of gray colors, but the distinctive feature is the black stripe on the tail. Small predator, 1.5-2.5 meters. This species prefers to live near the islands.

The gray shark is known for its aggressiveness, desire for rivalry and unpredictable behavior. As a rule, the cause of the attack may be an invasion of its space.

Swift mako

No shark can compete with lightning mako, it is a cheetah in the world of sharks. Usually it can reach speeds of up to 50 km / h. So impetuous due to the streamlined body and the cone-shaped head, which cuts the water with ease. The length of an adult individual may be 3 meters or more.

Thanks to the deadly grip, this shark can rightly be called one of the most deadly for humans, but it is not the most dangerous shark in the world.

Fighter

Atlantic reef shark has a classic body structure. Quite a large individual, from the relatives it can be distinguished by white spots on the fins. It has the best sense of smell in the world of sharks. It lives in tropical seas.

Found notoriety because of her temper, she is the most aggressive of her kind. Learning to associate the smell of fuel with food, it represents a great danger to fishermen, divers and those who have been shipwrecked.

In the top three

The tiger shark is one of the largest (3-4.5 meters), but not the fastest, but very strong. Its name was due to the transverse bands on the back, which are similar to tiger. Found in tropical and subtropical areas

This predator is practically everything. The shark is omnivorous, if these titans find something, they want to eat it. They do not disdain and carrion. They have a calm character and attack a person only if he is on their way.

Legend

Many believe that the most dangerous shark in the world is the legendary white, but no. A large species of shark has 5-6 m in length with a mass of 600 kg and above. I got my name due to the white color of the belly, the back is gray or brown. They prefer to swim in the open ocean and in the coastline.

But fortunately, these floating jaws do not secrete man in the diet, they are gourmets and their main dish is seals and sea lions. And if she attacks a person, be sure that the shark misinterpreted the sounds of a swimmer, taking him for a seal.

Omnipresent

So, what is the most dangerous shark in the world that is found almost everywhere? This is a bull shark, in it 3.5-4 meters of ferocity and aggression. It is omnipresent, prefers warm seas, coasts, rivers.

This mighty hunter will attack anything that can, provoke her or not. By virtue of his rage and maneuverability is very dangerous. From her not to hide, even in fresh water.

Cannibals?

And yes and no, according to the observations of scientists, it is impossible to say which is the most dangerous shark in the world for a person; they may have certain gastronomic preferences. But people never entered their main menu. Most often, a shark attacks a person, not because it is addicted to its meat, but because it got in its way during the hunt, or, as in the cases with white sharks, taking a bathing man for a seal. Rumors about cannibal sharks are greatly exaggerated.
